A brief history of mobile phones

Wireless services started with a blueprint that relied on cellular technology. Cellular's name connotes that each geographic region of coverage is broken up into cells. Within each of these cells is both a radio transmitter as well as control equipment. The first cellular services, which operate at 800 MHz, used analog signals. Analog sends signals using a continuous stream or wave. When a cellular phone customer turns on his phone, a signal is sent that identifies him as a customer, makes sure he is a paying customer, then searches out a free channel to fit his call.

I'm on the train - can you hear me?

Digital networks, however, solved many of those problems, and offered a host of new possibilities. This was the era of explosive growth in mobile phone usage – driven by Nokia’s basic, easy-to-use handsets, weighing just half a pound, and by the beginnings of text messaging in the mid Nineties. These 2G networks also allowed data traffic, which meant that the web, as it evolved, was accessible on mobile phones too. The first ringtone was downloaded in 1998, and the following year Japanese consumers were able to access the internet.

On the old days, mobile phones were big and heavy, the size was getting to shrink down in the late of 1980s. Afterward, the much smaller mobile phones became popular and common in 1990s. The development happened along with the addition of new features such as note-taking, personal organization, and email. Furthermore, the text message service was also becoming available in 2G mobile phone in the early 1990s. Today, mobile phones have become the greatest means of technology to enable the real time communication with the family or friends.

These days, almost everyone has a mobile phone. But it wasn’t always like this; mobile devices used to be a novelty reserved for the rich and affluent. We rarely saw them except in the hands of some privileged jerk who felt it necessary to display his dominance over the rest of us by making loud, unnecessary phone calls at inappropriate times. In fact even now this is the primary use of mobile devices – a pretentious gadget that you purchase just to show everyone that you can.
